A Lunch to welcome new members inducted during 2024

Thursday, 17 October

The weather on 16th was very ordinary with wind, rain and general dreariness. However, we were greeted with a brilliant red sunrise on the 17th which assured us of a sunny day for our inaugural lunch to welcome the new 2024 members of our Probus Club.

Hastings and Liz Pawsey, together with Ros Thompson (all Past Presidents), were hosting the new members, their allocated Mentors and members of the Management Committee to a relaxed lunch held in the Pawsey’s Folly, at the back of their home.

President Peter and his wife Barbara were responsible for decorating the area with blue and yellow balloons (the colours for Probus). It all looked very festive when the guests started arriving at noon. Blue and yellow serviettes also graced the tables covered with freshly made sandwiches (from Cafe Belrose in
Narabang Way, Belrose) and Sara Lee Carrot Cake and Lemon Cake. Vice President Mike Hartnell did a brilliant job passing around the dips and crackers!

A few formalities before lunch from Hastings and Peter and then after lunch, Peter introduced each Committee member and asked then to talk about their individual roles in the Club, covering what is involved and what part gives you the most satisfaction.

With some of the members away, Jock Cameron spoke on behalf of Warwick Brady (Entertainment) and Tony Lovett (Membership). Lesley Walker stepped up to talk on the roles of Social, Guest Speakers and Wrap with Love – all roles which Lesley has held previously!

Each new member was given a sheet of “Useful Information” to take home and refer to covering how to do direct bookings, direct payments, etc.

Thank you to all who attended – 15 New Members, 11 Mentors and 9 Committee Members and 4 additional helpers (Megan Hartnell, Barbara Moxham, Lesley Walker and Hastings Pawsey). It was a very relaxed, successful and happy occasion.

Assistant Secretary

Christmas Lunch at Monash Country Club

Thursday, 19 December at 12.00 noon
$85.00 per person – Final numbers and payment by 12 December.

I will be unavailable at the October general meeting but please book on the website to register your interest in attending this end of year function.

We are fortunate in having a guest entertainer who will surprise us with some great Xmas songs.
Don’t forget to break out the BLING!

There will be a welcome drink and canape on arrival BUT no other drinks included.
A full bar will be available on the day.

There will be table seating arrangements in place for the lunch as this helps to include our new Members and spreads the blokes around!

Please encourage as many as possible to attend this final function for the year.

I would love to see everyone encouraging our new members to come to the social events as it is a great opportunity on a casual basis to meet new people.

Cheers, Marg Lovett

Looking forward to seeing as many as possible at our functions.
